  • Decrease speed and allow plenty of room to stop.
  • Turn on lights to keep visiblity to other motorists and yourself.
  • Use low gears to keep traction.

Space Heaters
Tuesday, December 14, 2010
-
As the weathe starts to get colder, you may be getting out space heaters to keep your house warm. When buying a space heater look for one that has been tested and labled by a nationally recognized company, like Underwriter's Laboratories Inc. (UL). Here are some safety tips to keep you safe, and stay warm:

  • Keep the heater three feet away from drapes, furniture, and any flammable materials.
  • If you have to use an extension chord use a heavy duty one. Make sure it has the same power rating, as the one on the label of the heater.
  • Never leave a space heater running or unattended while you sleep. Or if you leave the house, unplug it.
  • Keep electric heaters away from water, never use them in the bathroom or kitchen.
Stay safe, and Happy Holidays from the members of Southend Fire Company.
